Jill Newman - Counsellor
I’d like to offer a safe haven for you to come and talk about what’s worrying you. It's usual to feel as though a weight’s been lifted once you can start discussing what’s on your mind. However tempting it might be to push those difficult thoughts down and ignore them, they won’t go away until you give them some air.
Do you know that feeling when the pressure builds and you feel as though the mask of your polite, in-control, outward presence might slip – then it’s good to have an outlet for those intense inner feelings.
As our rapport grows, there are times in a session when it feels like two good friends having an earnest conversation, there may be “Eureka” moments and humour. Sometimes there may be tears as we explore the heartfelt, painful emotions, but through this hard work comes increased self-understanding, acceptance, the ability to change and hope for the future. "The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change", Carl Rogers.
Becoming a counsellor is a culmination of many years working for various organisations, combined with bringing up three children and like many people, I’ve faced challenges along the way. For example with work issues, relationships, losing loved ones… do take a look at the Counselling pages for more information about the way I work.
I have developed a real affinity for working with women and men affected by pre and post-natal concerns as a result of my own life experience and founded on ten years working in an NHS Early Pregnancy Unit. You can read more about this on the Specialism pages.
Although our problems are unique to each of us the painful feelings that result and really get us down, can in some ways be similar for us all. It really does help to talk about it and sometimes it’s easier to talk to someone in private, outside of your own circle of family and friends.
Being a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) means that I work to their ethics and am accountable to them. This helps to uphold professional standards and assures you that my work with you is confidential, impartial and non-judgmental. Meaning that you can talk freely, from the heart and express how you're really feeling.
If you would like to find out more, then please feel free to send me a message via the contact page.
